Research-practice interactions as reported in recent design studies: Still promising, still hazy

This study portrays recent research–practice connections found in 18 design research reports focusing on the creation of instructional solutions. Solutions in different stages of development varied greatly in duration, ranging from one lesson to a whole year curriculum, spanned all levels of education, many subjects (science, math, language, culture, teacher education, etc.). Close collaboration between researchers and practitioners was prominent in all of the 18 projects studied. Participants in primary and secondary education projects have quite distinct roles regarding the teaching and researching, but they design their instruction solutions often collaboratively. Nearly all projects reported on how designed solutions were anchored in research, either from literature or from in-house project data. All articles indicated that research fed (re-)design, but few specified how. Based on our findings, we call for increased research and reporting on the specific strategies employed by design research participants to facilitate the production of new theoretical understanding through design of instructional solution

Wiskundig begrip bij het modelleren van veranderingsprocessen met differentiaalvergelijkingen

In een deel van een onderzoek waarin een theorie over en lesmateriaal voor het opstellen van differentiaalvergelijkingen (DVn) wordt ontwikkeld participeerden drie docenten van drie verschillende scholen. Zij kregen elk dezelfde mondeling toegelichte aanwijzingen voor het geven van lessen over het opstellen van DVn. Met deze aanwijzingen hebben zij hun lessen vormgegeven. Deze lessen verschilden per docent aanzienlijk. De bruikbaarheid van de aanwijzingen, de interpretaties van de aanwijzingen en het effect van de aldus gegeven lessen op het begrijpen van het concept DV door hun leerlingen is onderzocht. Uit dit onderzoek kwam naar voren dat er in de aanwijzingen geen rekening is gehouden is met de uitgangspositie van de docent en dat de aanwijzingen alleen onvoldoende waren. Er bleek behoefte te zijn aan een serie opgaven en extra achtergrondinformatie voor de docent. Verder bleek dat de verschillende interpretaties van de aanwijzingen er niet voldoende toe hebben geleid dat de leerlingen zelf ‘ontdekten’ dat en waarom DVn geschikt zijn om veranderingssituaties te beschrijven. Omdat de docenten de aanwijzingen verschillend interpreteerden in de toepassing in hun lessen werden verschillende effecten bij de leerlingen opgemerkt. De participatie van de drie docenten op deze wijze leidde zo tot een brede bijstelling van de theorie en het lesmateriaal, waarin tevens rekening is gehouden met de mogelijk verschillende uitgangsposities van de docenten

Biological background of pediatric medulloblastoma and ependymoma: A review from a translational research perspective

Survival rates of pediatric brain tumor patients have significantly improved over the years due to developments in diagnostic techniques, neurosurgery, chemotherapy, radiotherapy, and supportive care. However, brain tumors are still an important cause of cancer-related deaths in children. Prognosis is still highly dependent on clinical characteristics, such as the age of the patient, tumor type, stage, and localization, but increased knowledge about the genetic and biological features of these tumors is being obtained and might be useful to further improve outcome for these patients. It has become clear that the deregulation of signaling pathways essential in brain development, for example, sonic hedgehog (SHH), Wnt, and Notch pathways, plays an important role in pathogenesis and biological behavior, especially for medulloblastomas. More recently, data have become available about the cells of origin of brain tumors and the possible existence of brain tumor stem cells. Newly developed array-based techniques for studying gene expression, protein expression, copy number aberrations, and epigenetic events have led to the identification of other potentially important biological abnormalities in pediatric medulloblastomas and ependymomas. Визначаються правові норми професійної діяльності омбудсмена, а також інституту з захисту конституції і прав людини в цілому. Більш детально розглядається результат роботи даної структури, її роль, функції, необхідність захисту культури конституційних прав і їхнього розвитку. Здесь вы увидите определения правовых стандартов профессиональной деятельности омбудсмена и института по защите Конституции и прав человека в целом. Более детально рассматриваются вопросы касательно результатов работы данной структуры, ее роли в государстве, функций, потребностей в защите культуры конституционных прав и их развития. The more attention paid in questions of the results of this structure, role in the State, functions, needs in the protect the culture of constitutional rights and their development.
